Abstract

The quality of medical care, in its three dimensions—technical-professional, interpersonal, and environmental—offers a comprehensive approach grounded in professional communication, which increasingly tends to be assertive. With the aim of determining the level of knowledge and performance regarding assertive communication among students and teachers of the Health Rehabilitation degree program, a qualitative action-research study was conducted between September and December 2025 at the University of Medical Sciences of Granma, with a simple random sample of 21 students, 7 tutors, and 15 patients, who were observed in their communicative performance during work-based education across four dimensions and their indicators, through the application of surveys and interviews. The diagnostic results reveal weaknesses in the assertive communication process and demand a pedagogical action for its development in the formation of professional modes of performance.
