Abstract

The hyponatremic encephalopathy or cerebral osmotic demyelination is produced by a very fast hyponatremia agressive, by an over correction or prolongued maintenance of a hyponatremia, mainly when it happens in alcoholism, characterized by variable clinical neurological manifestations, that in quadriplegia and irreversible coma (Locked-in syndrome). It has been presented a clinical case, diagnosed in the Intensive Care Unit, malking emphasis on the possible causes, clinical manifestations, complementaries, diagnosed procedures and patterns to follow. The literature has been checked and there have been suggested some recommendations for its better handling.
