Abstract

The ventricular septal defects embrace all those congenital anomalies of the heart that independently of their nature, origin and  characteristics, facilitate the blood flow from a ventricular cavity to the other. It can be presented isolated or associated to other dysfunctions of the cardiovascular anatomy. Single ventricular septal defect is the most frequent of congenital cardiopathies, with evolution from the spontaneous closure to the most severe forms that develop obstructive pulmonary vascular disease what makes surgery contraindicated. The early diagnosis and treatment will reduce the appearance of complications and will help to prolong the survival of these patients. The present bibliographical revision was designed with the objective of deepening in the diverse anatomical, physiopathological, clinical and diagnostic aspects of the adults patients with CIV. The articles related with the topic and available in Medline and Hinaris´s databases in the last ten years were revised in an automated and exhaustive way. The whole information obtained was condensed, being carried out an analysis and synthesis of this one.
