Abstract

Our main objective is to show how the Otitis Media with efussion (OME) can be treated. This is a frequent pathology in children in spite of the poor resources that we have. And we also pretend to obtain similar results as the countries in the first world. It was performed an observational, prospective research evaluating the findings and results in the Ear consult from the General University Hospital Carlos Manuel de Cespedes during the period January 2008 to December 2010. There were  performed 66 inserctions of transtympanic drainages , all of them with local resources and there were obtained auditive improvement in 37 ears  during the period of  three months, evidenced through audiograms for a 56%,  regular checkups were mantained every three months,  even with tympanograms that indicated that 62 ears were healed after 12 months for 94%. There were reported only 7 complications: otorrhea , precocious fall of  TTD and precocious obstruction of the ventilation tube. Our results were compared with international authors and they were similar, what indicated that with local initiatives the health problems can be solved for the people.
