Epidemiological factors related to the low birth weight at “Rene Vallejo Ortiz Polyclinic”, 2010-2011.

Abstract

It was performed a descriptive and retrospective research about some maternal risk factors that influenced in low birth weight new borns  at Rene Vellejo Polyclinic in Bayamo, since January 1rst, 2010 to April 30, 2011.  It was designed a form that gathered the information contained in the obstetric medical records of 70 mothers and 72 low birth weight object of the investigation.  There were 2 tween pregnancies with 2 low birth weights. There were analized some indicators like: the maternal age, associated conditions and / or dependents of pregnancy,  winning weight, anemia, vaginal discharge syndrome, urinary sepsis, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, bronchial asthma, nutritional valuation at the beginning of pregnancy. Among the main results obtained we have: Manoplas- El Valle- la Union, as  the popular council  mostly affected. The preconceptional low maternal weight, as well as poor winning of maternal weight in the first 24 weeks. The anemia, urinary sepsis, and the vaginal discharge  were the most frequent  conditions associated to pregnancy. The chronic diseases as bronchial asthma  and hypertension disorders of pregnancy did not have a great significance in this research although they were related  to the low birth weight. However the group of adolescents was significant unlike the patients with advanced maternal age.
