Abstract

In the problems related to the elderly an aspect to be considered is the suicide risk behavior, a situation that has been approached in recent years by several researchers. The study has a main objective to determine the validity and reliability of the scale (ENARS) assessing suicide risk attitude in the elderly at Polyclinic No. I "Francisca Rivero Arocha" in Manzanillo, 2011. The methodological design responds to a descriptive and transversal study, in a population of 1263 elderly males and females of the People's Council #5 and 14, using a stratified sampling design, taking as a stratification factor the Family Medical Office; the selection of 10% in each stratum was conducted with the application of the raffle method, the sample was made by 121 (76.5%) elders. For the analysis there were used descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. When comparing statistically the experts’ criteria and the key informers we saw that the differences were slim, there was a little variability in the data, ensuring that the scale was consistent, testing the validity of the content, criterion and construction as well as the reliability of the instrument in regards to the time. We concluded then that the created scale assesses risks to commit suicide attempt in the elderly, testing its validity and reliability.
