Abstract

The Cuban ophthalmology has the high honor of occupying a supportive position of support, commitment and work with such a beautiful task for the good of the peoples including Venezuela. Due to the high diagnosis of cataract, we were motivated to describe this health problem in the assisted communities, with the aim of describing some variables in patients with cataract diagnosed in the first quarter of 2015. Descriptive statistics techniques were used to quantify and analyze the data obtained. As the main results the female sex with 59.83 % and the ages of 61 to 70 years (27.7 %) as well as 71 to 80 years (30.19 %) stands out, it was notorious that the diagnosis increased with age, the care of patients with diagnosis Of cataract was similar in the three assisted regions of the total of patients with cataract diagnosis (361) received surgical intervention 43 patients and the majority did not present complications 61.53 %, a group of patients with cataracts also had associated diseases such as diabetes 20.49 % And hypertension 18.83 %, the patients with total opacification cataract 42.30 % were outstanding. It was possible to describe the main variables related to the diagnosis of cataract in the patients of the three assisted communities, which serves as a basis for subsequent analytical studies.
