Abstract

An observational- descriptive- retrospective study was carried out  in the Oshakati Hospital from January - December of 2009, with the aim of determining the characteristics of child abuse  up to 15 years old. This data was obtained through  a survey designed for the family members, doctors and  children  belonging  to the community under study. The universe was formed by 390 children that came to the hospital and the sample consisted on the detected cases (146). The male sex prevailed and  the  type of physical abuse was the nutritional disorders, besides these children were forced to leave school and do housework, and the sexual abuse was also an important aspect. The majority of the children wished that the family members were different. A similar amount felt themselves as important parts of their families. We suggest then to spread out the results of this investigation to the  health agents and to perform studies of greater complexity in order to improve this topic.
