Clinical and epidemiological characterization of patients with addictions. Medical Office in Las Mangas. Bayamo 2004-2012

Abstract

The drugs consumption constitutes an accelerated growth phenomenon that involves elevated individual and social costs. It was performed a descriptive and transversal study with the objective to characterize the patients with addictions assisted in the medical office ¨Las Mangas¨ in the period of 2004-2012. From a universe of 210 abusive consumers, the sample was made out of 66. The variables studied were: age, sex, cultural level, individual and familiar antecedents of consumption, types of drug, familiar functioning, pathogenia of the consumption, marital status, acceptance of the familiar environment, and main characteristics of the personality, psychological and psychiatric examination. The information was obtained through the clinical records, interviews to patients and the family. The results were gathered in a database performed in SPSS version 15, the summary measure was the absolute numbers and percentages. The single men prevailed (53%), between 27 to 36 years (n 37; 56 %), secondary level (66.6 %), the beginning of consumption between 10 and 19 years (43.9 %), poly addictions (n 46; 69.6%), with dissocial disorders of the personality, and from dysfunctional families (71.2 %). The most used drugs were the psycho active drugs, followed by the cigar and the alcohol and the illicit drug used was the marihuana.
