Abstract

It was carried out a therapeutic clinical trials phase II (b), controlled, randomized, blind to third persons, unicentered, there were included diagnosed patients with edematous chronic gingivitis (ECG) between 15 and 50 years old, divided into two groups: control (I) that received aqueous chlorhexidine-0.2 %; and experimental (II) treated with tincture of Salvia officinalis L.-20 % that were assisted in Periodontics service from May to December 2014 in the odontology specialties clinic General Manuel de Jesus Cedeño Infante, Bayamo, Granma. Female sex prevailed between 20 and 24 years with moderated degree of ECG. The slight injury cured the 60 % of patients between 9 and 11 days of treatment with 5 applications of tincture. The 54.8 % of moderated injuries ECG treated with tincture of Salvia officinalis- 20 % cured from 15 to 18 days, with seven - nine applications. In the severe (ECG) recovery patients (66.7 %) was between 23 and 26 days, with 13 applications of Salvia officinalis. It was reported minimal and light adverse effects with the application of tincture of Salvia officinalis L.-20 %, burning gums and it was not necessary to interrupt the treatment. There were not relapses. Salvia officinalis tincture L. 20 % proved to be as effective and safe as clorhexidine 0.2 % in the treatment of patients with edematous chronic gingivitis.
