Abstract

Glaucoma is a progressive degenerative optic neuropathy and the second leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. It is estimated to affect approximately 70 million people, with a projected increase to nearly 80 million by 2030 due to population aging. This quasi-experimental study evaluated the efficacy of magnetotherapy and ozone therapy in patients diagnosed with Simple Chronic Glaucoma (SCG) in the Gulf of Guacanayabo region, Manzanillo, Cuba. The research was conducted at the Celia Sánchez Manduley University Hospital from January 2021 to February 2024, with a sample of 50 patients (100 eyes) at different stages of the disease. The results revealed a predominance of males (64 %), the 60-69 age group (46 %), and white race (52 %). The most significant risk factors were a family history of glaucoma (40 %) and ocular hypertension (38 %). After the application of the combined treatment, improvement in visual acuity and visual field was obtained in 90 % of the treated eyes, with a significant decrease in intraocular pressure. The combined therapy proved to be effective in 96 % of the cases, validating itself as the foundation of rehabilitation management in patients with simple chronic glaucoma.
