Impact of intrafamilial maltreatment on children and adolescents

Abstract

Child maltreatment is a topic of great repercussion and relevance that affects a vulnerable group and has a direct impact on the mental health of the children and adolescents who suffer it. This observational, descriptive-level, cross-sectional study aimed to determine the characterization of intrafamilial maltreatment in patients seen at the Mental Health clinic of the Hermanos Cordové Pediatric Hospital in Manzanillo, during the period May-October 2025. The sample consisted of 45 patients, of whom 18 were male and 27 female. A rigorous selection process was carried out using specific criteria, and semi-structured interviews were applied for data collection. The studied variables were represented in different tables and analyzed statistically. As a result, it is detected that intrafamilial maltreatment presents differentiated patterns according to type and gender, evidencing the need for early intervention strategies in the population served.
