Acupuntural Treatment in the Trigemine neuralgia

Abstract

Introduction: this research was directed to find an efficient, less expensive and less aggressive method for the pain relieving in patients with trigeminal neuralgia because for the diminishment of its symptoms there are used several types of treatment that may produce adverse reactions and risk the patients' lives.
Objective:
it was made an experimental randomized, clinical essay phase II in the Department of Alternative and Traditional Medicine of the Clinical Surgical University Hospital Celia Sánchez Manduley, with the aim to evaluate the efficiency of the acupunctural treatment in the trigeminal neuralgia, since November 2009 until November 2010.
Method:
it was made an experimental randomized, clinical essay phase II to determine the efficiency of the acupunctural treatment in the trigeminal neuralgia for the conventional treatment in adults. The sample was divided into two groups of patients distributed at random in the maxillofacial office at Celia Sánchez Manduley hospital since November 2008 to November 2009.
Results:
the female sex prevailed with 56 patients (70%), most of them were housewives, the average age was about 48.18 years with a standard deviation of 10.71; it was evidenced the evolutions in patients treated with acupuncture.
Conclusions:
after the evaluation of the results it was concluded that acupuncture was more effective than the conventional treatment in the relief of the first symptoms of facial pain caused by the trigeminal neuralgia.
