Morbility for dentinal hyperesthesia in patients assisted at the Nutrition Odontologic Service. Yacuruy State
Abstract
Introduction: the dentinal hyperesthesia is defined like an exaggerated reaction towards the sensitive, tactile, termic, chemical or homeosthatic stimulus, that affect the dentition exposed with open and permeable tubules.
Objective: to determine the aspects of morbility for dentinal hyperesthesia in patients from the ¨Nutrition¨Odontologic Service, since may, 2007 to the 2010.
Method: it was performed a descriptive and transversal investigation to determine some aspects related to morbility for dentinal hyperesthesia in patients assisted at the Nutrition Odontologic Service in the Independence municipality in Yacuruy state, during the period may 2007 to may 2010. The data was gathered in the clinical record, there were used statistical and mathematic methods.
Results: from the 90 affected patients, 50 were men and the females had 44. 4%, the most affected group was a boy 60 years ald older. It was evidenced an increase in the values of the dentinal hyperesthesia caused by the periodontal retraction with the increase of the age. The most frequent causes of the dentinal hyperesthesia in the studied population were the absence of the antagonist teeth and the wrong placed prosthesis, showing a greater percent in a total of 13 patients.
Conclusions: the most frequent causes were the absence of antagonist teeth and wrong placed prosthesis with 14.4%, the male sex and the group of 60 years and older, the dentinal hyperesthesia in the cervical tertius, the acute pain and the teeth absence, were the prevailing factors.
