Abstract

Introduction: critically ill patients need strict surveillance in their treatment and follow-up to ensure knowledge of the slightest variation in their disease.

Objective: to characterize the behavior of critically ill children who were admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care service of the General Luis Ángel Milanés Tamayo Children's Hospital in 2019.

Methods: a cross-sectional retrospective descriptive study was carried out in the Bayamo PICU of critically ill patients in 2019, to study their behavior.

Results: 74% of the admissions were under 1 year of age, 68% were male, 38% came from the body of guard, 27% were from the health area of the René Vallejo Polyclinic, 14% as a diagnosis on admission in severe sepsis, 57% were deceased under 1 year and 66% were ventilated.

Conclusions: children under 1 year of age, male, from the guardhouse of the René Vallejo Polyclinic, with a diagnosis of severe sepsis were critical children admitted to our service in the period studied.
