Abstract

Given the permanence of self-inflicted lesions in the health situation of the Manzanillo municipality with a predominance in the adolescence stage, it is necessary to look at this problem, so it was decided to conduct a study with the aim of determining the causal relationship between some factors of risk and the occurrence of suicide attempt in adolescents, classified as case-control type and among the variables to be studied, the stage of adolescence, the level of self-esteem and the level of depression were considered. The sample was 23 adolescents who attempted suicide of Polyclinic II during 2017 and first quarter of 2018 and were assigned 23 controls that had not attempted suicide, a battery of tests was applied, for the analysis of data was used percentage analysis and Odds Ratio. 56.52% were adolescents of the late stage of 17-19 years, 54.34% have a high level of depression in favor of controls, but most of both groups have an adequate level of self-esteem (high and medium), there is a very strong relationship between the risk factor depression state and the occurrence of a suicide attempt in adolescents. It was found that slightly more than half were adolescents of the late stage and the hypothesis that some risk factors such as high and medium level of depression and low self-esteem increase the possibility of occurrence of a suicide attempt, while the Adequate self-esteem behaved as a protective factor for the group studied.
