Abstract

Orthopedic and traumatological surgery regroups, interventions aimed at the upper and lower limbs and the spine and, it is likely that no other subspecialty of anesthesia requires familiarity with a greater variety of anesthetic techniques. A prospective descriptive study was carried out at the Celia Sánchez Manduley Provincial Hospital during the period July-December 2019, whose study sample consisted of 104 patients with the aim of describing the results of peridural anesthesia in orthopedic surgery of lower limbs in patients operated on electively. With the anesthetic method applied, hemodynamic changes related to systolic and diastolic blood pressure, as well as heart rate were not very evident, being more visible around 20 minutes after the operation, where these variables moved with a tendency to arterial hypotension and bradycardia. The degree of pain was assessed using the visual analog scale at different times, the most frequent score was zero corresponding to the absence of pain. The incidence of complications was low and they occurred in a small number of patients, with arterial hypotension being more frequent. In the processing of said data descriptive statistical measures were used as absolute numbers, the mean, standard deviation in addition to a confidence interval for a 95% reliability supported by the SPSS statistical system, the data were presented in statistical tables for better illustration and discussion.
