Abstract

The presence of acute apendicitis in an inguinal hernia is an unfrequent fact with 0.13% of the cases. This weird condition is known as Amyand´s hernia. The way of habitual presentation is a complicated inguinal hernia, for this reason the preoperative diagnosis of acute appendicitis requires a serious clinical suspicion. The recommended treatment is the appendicectomy and primary restoration of the hernia at the same operative time, it is presented a 72 year old patient who showed a complicated inguinal hernia and whose appendicitis diagnosis was performed in the transoperative. The cecal appendix had inflamatory changes inside the hernia sac.It was developed a consistent surgical treatment in the appendicectomy with histological confirmation and herniorrhaphy by La Roque technique. The patient was discharged after five days with a good evolution.
