Enteropathic Acrodermatitis: A case report and a revision of literarure

Abstract

Introduction: he Enteropathic Acrodermatitis is an hereditary autosomal recessive disease that can cause a zinc defficit in the body, it is characterized by varied clinical manifestations like the periorificial and acral dermatitis, alopecia and diarrhea, although the whole manifestations are not always presented. Zinc is the leading cause, an important metaloenzyme in the metabolism and its prolongued defficit can provoke a retardation of growth, development and skin manifestations in children, emphasizing the importance of an early diagnosis and treatment of this pathology. Within a period of 33 years in the dermatological service of this institution of secondary assistance, there were diagnosed two cases of Enteropathic Acrodermatitis, one of them is presented in this work.
Objective: to report a case in our field.
Clinical case: a 20 months –old white baby girl with diarrheas, eritematous, peri orificial, craddle, squamous and acral lesions, diffuse alopecia of the scalp that appeared after the weaning.
Conclusions: this is an infrequent autosomal recessive disease that leads to the defficit of zinc absortion and should be early diagnosed an treated in a multidisciplinary way. In this case the evolution was satisfactory after receiving the recommended oral dosis of zinc.
