Abstract

Introduction: epilepsy is one of the most common chronic neurological diseases in children.

Objective: to determine the general prevalence and according to age, sex and etiology of epilepsy in the health area of the Jimmy Hirzel polyclinic of the Bayamo municipality, Granma province in patients under 15 years of age.

Methods: a descriptive and cross-sectional investigation was carried out, using the capture-recapture method among the statistical techniques.

Results: the general prevalence rate found was 4.54 (95% CI, 4.33-4.74). Conclusions: it was concluded that the prevalence of epilepsy in the health area studied presents values similar to those found in developed countries.
