Abstract

Introduction: keratocystic odontogenic tumour is a lesion associated with dental development, which has deserved special attention due to its invasive nature and the proven possibility of recurrence. This tumour predominates in the first decades of life, has a predilection for the male sex and is located more frequently in the molar region of the jaw. The treatment criteria have been controversial due to the considerable rates of recurrence with conservative methods, and the inevitable aesthetic and functional damage when radical methods are used.
Clinical case
: a case of a child with a lesion of this type, bilaterally located in the jaw, in which conservative surgical treatment was performed.
Conclusions
: the early diagnosis of these lesions allows the best treatment alternatives and ensures a better prognosis regarding the aesthetic result and the recurrence rates. The management of these patients should include a long period of postoperative follow-up to detect possible recurrences. In the case presented, the patient is free of recurrence after seven years of follow-up.
