Abstract

It was carried out an analytical retrospective study to characterize diarrheas caused by Salmonellas in children admitted to Gastroenterology service, Children Hospital “Luis A Milanés Tamayo”, Bayamo municipality, Granma province from 2004-2007. The population was composed by 4177 children from 0 to 18 months of age admitted to the service. The sample was integrated by 277 Salmonella carriers selected by non probabilistic intentional sampling. The variables included were: year of occurrence, age, sex, kind of diarrhea, kind of feeding, nutritional status, and complications. We calculated odds ratio with a significance level of α = 0.05. Year 2005 prevailed in acute diarrhea, in the group age from 0 to 6 months which were not taking breast-feeding. Nutritional state was not significant. Decreasingly prevailed as complications:  hydromineral unbalance, anemia, and disbacteriosis.
